1982 Jeep CJ8, ” RokHugr”, rattle can desert storm sand and nutmeg. No, i really don’t want to trade your cement truck or paving machine. My rock crawling days are over. It is smog legal in CA with CARB exemption sticker on radiator and passes smog with ease. With it’s purpose-built 4.88 gearing, and 37″ tall tires, top speed is 62 mph on the highway. This was a state-of-the-art Rock Crawler by 2001 and has been continually upgraded but used very little since. It runs the best it has ever run, right now. Basically what you get is a classic unchopped Scrambler body style with all the niggling bad CJ parts of the era replaced with much more robust parts. Almost everything was visited to see what would break down under the pressure of the Rubicon. All weak parts were expunged for big, hairy parts. Unless you are a total idiot, this thing is not going to break. This jeep was built as a down and dirty doer, not a pretty poseur. I built this CJ-8 over a 20 year period, throwing a LOT of time and money at it. No, I’ve never calculated the over all cost. I don’t want to know. I might have 10K miles on it since the peak of the rebuild stage.
AGR power steering box and pump, M.O.R.E. 1-1/2″ forward steering box brackets, M.O.R.E. engine mounts, Chevy power discs front and Cadillac discs rear, 10 watt CB, full Kayline nutmeg soft top and full doors (not made any more in nutmeg), windjammer, 1/2 doors, bikini top, custom soft cab top, rear seat(not in at the moment). Every seat has a lap belt only. This rig has done the Rubicon with 4 people and all there stuff, without a rubicon rack. Don’t try that with any other CJ. Comes with bulkhead for the pickup configuration (not in at the moment) Engine: built for low end torque. Peak torque: 1400 rpm. Pulls down to 300 rpm. 4.4L I-6 block and crank, .060″ overbore pistons and rings, 4.0L high output head, Mopar MPI fuel injection (with CARB exemption), Hesco adjustable fuel regulator with gage, H-264-14 cam (.470″ lift), Cloyes double roller timing gears and chains advanced 4 degrees, high volume oil pump, ’95 XJ exhaust header, 2.5″ aluminized pipe, cat and 12″ glass pack, hand throttle, 2-5/8″ Auto Meter gauges (0-4K tach, oil, temp, volt, vacuum) DRIVETRAIN: Ford NP-435 (6.69/3.34/1.66/1.00/8.26R) adapter by Advance, clocked Dana 300, 5 gear TeraLow 4:1 gears, Currie twin sticks, Woods drive shafts extra long splines, 6 bolt SuperWinch hubs, u-bolt style u-joints, 130:1 crawl, front axle: Dana 44, 30 spline front, ARB Air Locker, Warn 4330 ChroMoly shafts, ChroMoly steering-over rods with 1 ton TRE’s, Parts Mike steering-over knuckles, CTM U-joints, 4.88:1. Rear axle: Dana 60, 35 spine rear ARB Air locker, Mosier H.D. shafts, 4.88:1, 4XDoctor pig cages. SUSPENSION: Springs-over-axle with 6 leaf RE SOA 2-1/2″ lift springs, front reverse shackles, Rancho 9K’s, H.D. shackles, xtra long s.s. brake hoses, also big removable mud flaps to keep the CHP happy (not shown), and a beefed up swing away spare tire carrier. Off-road outfitting: Fenders trimmed to clear 37-13.50-16 TCL ProComp XTerrains on 8″ wheels, extra wide rubber fender lips, Currie steering brace and welded/over boxed front frame horns, radiator saver. Stubby rockhugger front bumper, Ford Mutt D rings, roll cage. Wrecking Ball proof custom rocker panels, Off-Your-Rocker steel rear diamond plate quarter panels, 24 gal. steel gas tank and steel skid plate, on-board Premier Power Welder (with180 amp alternator), welding satchel with gloves, helmet, a variety of rod, C clamps, spare regulator, #2 AWG welding lead clamps, chip hammer. Class III hidden receiver hitch. Spare Dana 300 t. case. RECOVERY EQUIP.: Warn #8274 Winch with snatch block and strap.
