For sale is a 1984 CJ-8 Scrambler Postal (Right Hand Drive) Rolling Chassis.
I purchased this project Jeep from Washington State this past spring. Prior to this it spent it’s first 29 years in Alaska delivering mail. My original plan was to patch up the body, install an engine and add a soft top, tailgate and three rows of seats and use her as our family off road Jeep. As luck would have it, I stumbled upon another 1984 Postal Jeep and now I have too many projects for this winter, so this one has to go.
The 1984 Postal Jeeps are a very Rare find. Approximately 230 of them were built in 1984 specifically for use by the Alaskan Postal Service. They all had their frames undercoated from the factory, so the Frame is beautiful on this Jeep, as you can see in the pictures. They dark specs on the frame in the pictures are areas where the undercoating has flaked off, and you can see the original shiny black frame paint.
What this Jeep comes with:
Frame/Body rolling chassis with automatic transmission
4.2 L engine from a 1982 Scrambler with an aluminum valve cover (66k miles on engine)
New flex plate for the Automatic Transmission
1 set of black half doors (need to be rebuilt)
Original Postal Right Side Front Seat
Original Postal Mail Tray (Left Side front seat location)
Note: The engine was purchased from a running scrambler last spring. The owner replaced it with a V8 to match his aftermarket axles.
This is definitely a project. The driver’s floor is mostly missing, and the passenger’s floor has a fairly large hole as well. There are several points in the front seat area that are rusted through, so body work is mandatory here. This Jeep has no top or tailgate. It is also missing the speedometer, lights and some miscellaneous bits and pieces, so the mileage on the Chassis is unknown, but I estimate it to be between 60k and 90k.
This Jeep has a clean Michigan Title.
